With its sparkling white sand, mesmerizing blue waters and top-class resort, Mataking Island is the ideal getaway for both the
avid diver and non-diver. Divers can gear up and explore the Eel Garden, Coral Garden, Nudibranch Garden, Turtle
Playground, Lobsters Lair and Hump Head Point.
Non-diving activities include a luxurious pampering experience at Jamu Spa, batik painting, kayaking, canoeing and jungle-
trekking to name a few. A must-do during your time in Mataking is to take a leisurely walk to Pulau Mataking Kecil (literally
meaning Small Mataking island) which is a 20-minute walk from the main island. The best time to take this walk is in the
morning when the tides are low, allowing you to walk on a sandy stretch that leads directly to the smaller island. With the sea
surrounding you on both sides, you will feel almost as if you are walking on water!
When you arrive back on the main island, climb up the wooden observation tower to get a breathtaking view of Mataking and
its surrounding areas. Catch a glimpse of Matakings famous ＆Underwater Post Office, the first of its kind in Malaysia. In
March 2006, the resort decided to sink Mataking 1, an old 40-foot wooden cargo ship to create an artificial reef and also to
serve as a unique underwater mailbox. Divers seal their mail in a waterproof vacuum bag and post it underwater.
Picturesque, equipped with excellent facilities and complemented with friendly service at all times, your stay at Mataking will
never be long enough.
Conservation
The Reef Dive Resort recognizes that Matakings beautiful jungles and coral reefs must be protected for future generations to
enjoy. As such, the resort takes great measures to be eco-friendly and to support reef building conservation projects in the
area.
Facilities
The Reef Dive Resort has plenty of facilities to make sure you enjoy your stay. The wireless broadband Internet connection,
satellite TV, mailing service, telephones and faxes mean you can stay in touch with the world if you choose to do so. Or you
can leave the world behind at the Jamu Spa and treat yourself to a deep tissue massage, body scrub, or coconut bath. Take a
walk through the resort exotic garden or climb the 20-meter Kings watchtower for breath-taking views of the island. The
resort?s Reef Restaurant and Coral Bar offer Malaysian and International food along with the freshest seafood. On the
weekends you can join in a beachfront barbecue.
If you enjoy staying active you can join a beach volleyball or soccer game, socialize at the entertainment lounge centre, or
head over to the resort activity desk to book an island excursion. Mataking beautiful reefs make Scuba diving a popular
excursion and the Reef Dive Resort?s Dive & Sea Sports Centre can suit you up for your dive activities.
Do not worry about your valuables while you travel around the island, the Reef Dive Resort has an excellent safekeeping
service.
Day Activities
There is plenty to do on Mataking Island and the Reef Dive Resort can help you do it. The resorts activity desk can help you
explore Mataking, which is actually two islands connected by a narrow sandbar. You can have a guide help you explore the
lush jungle of surrounding the resort on Mataking Besar or help you across the sandbar to the smaller Mataking Kesil. The
desk can also arrange a picnic for your outing.
The activity desk can bring you out bird watching, fish feeding, fish catching, or kite flying. Tours of the nearby Peacock
sanctuary or of the seaweed and fish farm can also be arranged. Coconut bowling competitions and treasure hunts are
frequently organized for guests.
Of course there is also plenty to do in the water from ocean kayaking to kookaburra boats to snorkelling. If you are looking to
get off of Mataking, island-hopping expeditions to neighbouring Pandanan or Timba-Timba Island can be arranged. The islands
of Tun Sakaran Marine Park can also be visited - these include Bohaydulong Island, Bohayan Island, Kalapuan Island, and
Baturua Island.
Night Activities
After a long day of scuba diving, island hopping and touring you may want to unwind at the Reef Dive Resort Sunset Bar
barbecue, take in a cultural performance, or relax to the islands guitar entertainment. If you have still got energy there are
night-time jungle treks where you can search for turtles laying eggs, scuttling coconut crabs, and fire flies. You could also hit
the resorts dance floor and boogie the night away.
Rooms at The Reef Dive Resort
The Reef Dive Resort offers a total of 37 rooms to choose from. These are the Premiere Deluxe Room of which there are 24;
Chalet of which there are 8; and Villa of which there are 5.
The Premier Deluxe Rooms are individual rooms linked together in traditional long house fashion while the Chalets are
bungalows raised on its own stilts providing more privacy with high pointed ceilings.
The luxurious Villas are the latest addition to this resort offering individual beach houses overlooking the beautiful sea.
All rooms come with remote controlled air conditioning unit and ceiling fan; coffee and tea making facilities; and private
shower bathroom with hot and cold water.
Getting There
The nearest town to this resort is Semporna town, East Coast of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Depending on where you are
coming from, you will likely have to transit at Kota Kinabalu.
From your location, fly to Kota Kinabalu, then fly for 45 minutes to Tawau. From Tawau, the resort will transfer you to
Semporna which will take about 90 minutes. From Semporna, you will take the resort speed boat to Mataking Island. The boat
ride will take another 60 minutes. Mataking Island will be your gateway to diving around Mataking Kecil and Mataking Besar
Islands, Pandanan Island, Timba-Timba Island, Bohayan Island and Baturua Reef.
If you prefer a leisurely pace, you can spend a night either in Tawau or Semporna. Tawau is the bigger town compared to
Semporna. But both offer unique experiences and excellent fresh seafood.

*Guests are recommended to follow the above flights which are connected to our daily REGULAR boat schedule to minimize
waiting time at the airport/Semporna. Guests MUST choose flights that arrive before 2:00PM/14:00HRS.
*For Guests who cannot make it for the last boat schedule at 15:30HRS (from Semporna) due to any delay or unforeseen
circumstances will be required to put a night stay at Tawau at own expenses. For Guests staying overnight at hotel in Tawau
shall be picked up from hotel early next morning at 07:30HRS to be transferred for onward journey to Semporna Jetty
followed by 09:30HRS boat to Mataking Island.
*For big group of bookings, please enquire for availability of any special boat or land transfer required (charter - chargeable
fee).
*Private / unscheduled land and boat transfer services can be arranged at RM 1,507.00 for a return way. (Ref.: RM 503.50
per boat way, RM 250.00 per coach way).
*Land transfer service ends on the actual check-out date from The Reef Dive Resort (Mataking Island). For departure flights
that are unable to meet our daily boat out schedule, a special boat out time at 6:30AM/06:30HRS local time can be arranged
at no additional cost (subject to availability and weather condition). Only applies to an outbound flight departs in between
10:30AM - 3:00PM. (Any flight departure before 10:30AM will be unacceptable)
*Local departures are subject to flight arrival time, weather conditions, group size and / or any unforeseen irregularity. In the
event due to insufficient number of guests to fill up our boat/coach, we may need to re-arrange the above transportation time
table.
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the content of this timetable. However, the schedules are subject to
change without prior notice and travelers are therefore advised to check with us on the latest information regarding the most
suitable schedule as we cannot be held responsible for any delay, cancellation, missed flight or missed connection.
~ Please note that our ROOM Check-In time is 14:00HRS and Check-Out time is 11:00HRS.
~ Any early check-in or late check-out will be subjected to room availability especially during peak season.
Dive sites are within travelling by speed boat (15 to 30 minutes) AWAY FROM Mataking Island.
The sites shall include these islands below:
(1) Pandanan Island
(2) Timba-timba Island
(3) Bohayan Island - dive site with soft and hard corals
(4) Kelapuan Island - dive site to spot Mandarin fishes (as known as Mandarin valley)
(5) Pom Pom Island
(6) Mataking Island
B. TERMS & CONDITIONS
Above rates apply for a minimum 2 persons and thereafter based on twin/triple/quadruple sharing basis. ONE (1) room must
occupy a minimum TWO (2) paying adults, all children are required to share and occupy the same room with parents/adults.
If a room consists of only ONE (1A) Adult and ONE (1C) Child, the room charges shall be quoted according to TWO (2A)
Adults prices.
NO combination of packages is allowed under the same person (e.g. 2 nights of diver package plus 1 night of nondiver
package or etc.).
Applicable to all room types, both adults and children.
Non-Diver Package CANNOT be converted to Diver Package (or either way) once a guest has arrived at the island.
Guests (non-diver stay package) with a certified dive license who wish to go for any diving activities will be charged at RM
100.00 per certified diver per dive regardless of check dive, boat dives, shore dives or Sipadan dives - NOT including dive
equipment rental. Upon arrival, the guest will be charged RM 100.00 per pax for the first orientation/check dive. Every divers
will need to carry out a check dive with our resident divemaster at first before proceeding to the regular dives.
Diver packages are subjected to our diving schedules and regulations as set by the dive center.
Any child who is a certified diver shall have to pay full diver rates regardless of their age and parents are to be held
responsible for their child at all times.
Single Traveler: Additional 50% surcharge on top of the above package rates for single occupancy applies in a twin sharing
room. In any event if there are no other guests to meet the minimum requirement for the land and boat transfers, there will
be an additional of RM 250.00 nett per coach way (land transfer) and RM 614.80 nett per boat way (boat transfer).

30% Deposit / Reservation Fee has to be paid once an official booking has been confirmed within 7 days.
The balance or full payment must be settled at least 30 days prior to the check-in date. Otherwise, the reservation is
subjected to automatic cancellation.
Equipment rental is NOT included in any of the Diver / Non Diver packages. Rental of a full set of dive equipment is at RM
85.00 per certified diver per day and a full set of snorkeling equipment is at RM 30.00 per person per day. Single dive gear is
available to be rented. Limited sets and subject to availability.
Note:
(1) Due to the recent ruling management of Sabah Park which has a restricted daily quota, all guests must apply permit in
ADVANCE (preferably 1 MONTH before arrival) on a First Come First Serve basis to secure the limited permit being shared by
all the resort operators at the same region.
(2) Please be informed that the current permit is NON REFUNDABLE / RM 140.00 per person per day entry (subject to Sabah
Park changes).
(3) This special arrangement requires an additional boat fee of RM 1,380.00 per boat. This boat fee can be shared with other
guests (if any) upon permit approval (maximum 6 guests in one boat).
(4) All types of activities being offered by the company on the island, especially dive activities / Sipadan trip, are subjected to
weather conditions / poor visibility and also the divers own physical status (e.g.: injuries, intoxication, hangovers, etc).
Therefore, we reserve the final decision and rights to either proceed or abort any activities / dives for any safety reason.
(5) It takes 80 minutes of speed boat ride to get to Sipadan Island from Mataking Island.
(6) The Sipadan Agreement Form will be given out to ALL confirmed Sipadan participants upon arrival at reception hall during
registration, the purpose of the agreement form is to verify Sipadan charges (as in permit fee and boat fee).
Cancellation for Sipadan Day Trip/Excursion
In the event of cancellation, the following cancellation shall applies:
Before guests arrival/check-in date: Free of charge
(ii) Upon arrival: Permit fee at RM 140.00 per person shall be charged
(iii) Upon signing of the Sipadan Agreement Form: Boat fee + permit fee shall be charged (Boat fee will be charged according
to the number of persons on that specific date)
All island expenses used and purchased in the Resort will be subjected to 6% Sales and Services Tax (SST).
Extra Note:-
Certified divers need to honestly and objectively assess their condition. It is not worth compromising their safety - which could
ruin more than the whole trip - because he/she is in a hurry to make the first dive.
How long does a Diver have to wait before flying after diving?
- Staying at ground level before going to altitude is like doing a decompression stop. Deeper and longer dives will leave with
more residual nitrogen, thus requiring a longer pre-flight surface interval. The time the diver should wait relates directly to the
pattern of diving completed.
- We recommend a general practice of allowing a surface interval of 24 hours or more before flying after diving. This should
bring reasonable peace of mind and help to provide a buffer for unexpected problems, like a loss of cabin pressurization
during flight. Ultimately, it is better safe than sorry and almost every location has enough to entertain for the final day.
Flying After Diving (last day at resort) - We, at The Reef believe that this differs from different individuals, agencies and even
dive computers / dive tables. If divers choose to dive less than 24 hours (recommended hours) before they fly, they will be
required to sign a separate Liability/Release Form for this matter. However, this is still subject to the approval of the Dive
Centre management.
